Our free Wildlife Wander is on Wednesday 30th July 3.30pm – 5.30pm - 18/7/25
It will provide an opportunity to learn about the lesser-known green spaces in North Faringdon.
The wander will start at the allotments at Lechlade Road, SN78AH where bees, butterflies and moths are hard at work pollinating a myriad of plants and vegetables. There will be a short walk to All Saints churchyard to hear about the work to create a biodiverse green space and to spot seasonal plant species. There will be another short walk to The Wilderness, a piece of land next to the Hobble which Faringdon Town Council want to make a wildlife sanctuary.
Friends of The Wilderness will be on hand to talk about plans to preserve and develop the area and provide access to schools, local community groups and residents.
Wild Oxfordshire will lead the walk and provide insights and stories along the way. There will also be a fun ‘Spot the Wildlife’ sheet to guide younger participants and information about wildlife gardening.
All are welcome but those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Please sign-up using Eventbrite using the QR code on the flyer or contact Community First at [email protected]

Full peal at All Saints - 8/7/25
On Saturday 18th July some visiting bellringers from York, Oxford, Bristol and Swindon will be joining local ringers to attempt a full peal for one of the local ringer's 18th birthday at All Saints Church Faringdon.
If successful this will last just under 3 hours (between 10am and about 1.30pm).
Although many churches ring several peals a year, this is less common at Faringdon where there are typically one or two peals a year. As always we are grateful for the recognition and support we get from the Church and the town.
If you’d like to get more involved with bell ringing at All Saint’s, then please email us at [email protected]

Music in the Market Square - 25/6/25
A couple of old boys........
Two of Faringdon's more "senior" residents, Jonjo and Dave, plan to give a bit of impromptu entertainment on melodeon and guitar in the Market Place, Saturday 5th July.
They'll be there between 11 and 12, weather permitting. They're entirely acoustic, no mikes, amps or speakers, and can pretty much guarantee that nothing you hear will be less than half a century old. So no Taylor Swift, whoever he is.
There might even be a guest appearance from that ancient fifties rock'n'roll singer Rickety Nelson, who has escaped Trump's America and seems to have taken up residence in Faringdon.
Al Cane and Helen will be there too, with a stall of Helen's lovely cards for you to browse while you're listening.
Dave and Jonjo are playing for their own amusement and possibly yours, but there will be an opportunity to help children in Gaza.

Part-night lighting and street lighting policy | Let's Talk Oxfordshire (Scroll down to see 'Take Survey')
Closes July 6th
Oxfordshire County Council operates approximately 60,000 streetlights across the county. Part-night lighting is an approach to reducing, or switching off, street lighting in an area for part of the night. It is intended to be used during the hours when the fewest people are using the streets. Part-night lighting isn’t new, it operates in many other parts of the UK and is already allowed for in our current street lighting and illuminated assets policy. We are proposing to introduce part-night lighting to improve the night-time environment for residents and wildlife, as well as energy and carbon reduction.

The Falkenstein Mandolin Club was founded in 1925 and is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The orchestra, consisting of mandolin, mandola, guitar and double bass, is known for its numerous concerts in Germany and abroad, successful participation in competitions and festivals, and appearances on radio and television. As a musical ambassador, the orchestra was a driving force in the establishment of the town twinning with Le Mêle-sur-Sarthe in Normandy, France, and the Polish town of Kórnik, and still maintains regular exchanges with all of Königstein's twin towns.
In keeping with this tradition, we are delighted to strengthen our most recent town twinning with Faringdon in a new musical friendship.
Various CD productions and awards bear witness to the ensemble's achievements, which currently comprises over 20 musicians under the direction of Natalia Alencova. With varied programmes ranging from timeless classical music to folk music from around the world, to pop music and modern compositions that one would not necessarily expect from a plucked string orchestra, the Falkenstein Mandolin Club repeatedly surprises its audiences.

27th April. Gt Coxwell St Giles Church 4pm
The Pavlova Wind Quintet, based in Oxford and Abingdon, give concerts throughout Oxfordshire. They have an impressively broad repertoire that includes music in several styles, from arrangements of light-hearted favourite tunes, to the more substantial classics for wind quintet.
The aim of the group has been from the outset to explore the more unusual and exciting areas of the wind quintet repertoire. They delight in mixing the familiar and the unfamiliar, classical and ethnic, serene and virtuosic.
Over the years, the group has become one of the most enterprising and high-profile ensembles in Oxfordshire.
Sunday's concert will be the perfect afternoon with some lighter repertoire, including Cohn's Arkansas Reel, Sherman's A Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square, Butterworth's Banks of Green Willow, and more.

The story of secret WW2 Spitfire production in Wiltshire - 12/1/25
As Coleshill has it's own secret WW2 history and volunteers who are invested in local history, I am happy to share this event with you. This is an external event with no National Trust involvement so any communications should be with the organisers directly.
Wiltshire Federation of WI are hosting a special event telling the story of secret WW2 Spitfire production in Wiltshire. Stories of women, children and non-combatant men who built the planes in barns, sheds, garages and bus depots. Another section of Britain's secret civilian army.
