Building the A420 bypass, 1978 and 1979

Until 1979, the A420 ran through Faringdon, so all traffic between Swindon and Faringdon had to drive through the town. 

As well as cars, this included car transporters constantly driving between their car production plants in Swindon and Oxford. They rattled through the town whether loaded or empty.  There were occasions when 2 would try to pass in the narrow part of London St., often getting themselves wedged between the houses
