Market Place 3 & Church Street

The Old Vicarage
Parts of this lovely old house may be late 17C, and some early 18C with later additions. At one time this was the Dower House to Faringdon House, but then it was purchased by the Church to make a better home for the vicar. It was sold by them a few years ago when a modern vicarage was built on the eastern edge of the town.

Church StreetChurch Street from the west Church Street has some lovely old houses and cottages.
At the end of the churchyard there are the old gatehouses belonging to the original Faringdon House, and parts of these are timber framed with brick infill. In the 19C a large stone barn stood in the top corner of the churchyard, it is said that the barn was taken down and rebuilt at Church Path Farm; the size and shape of that barn fits in with the story.

The large stone house facing the church was the original vicarage, now converted to flats. A large old sundial can still be seen on the rear elevation.
