| Re Idea for Folly light -
30/3/09 I think a massive revolving Tesco sign would look great at the top of the Folly" Actually, wouldn't that be a great April Fool's joke! Just think of all the cars driving into Faringdon looking for a new Tesco - imagine their faces when they were driving round and round looking for it! Hilarious! A Twisted Sister |

| Folly light - 31/3/09
I have a suggestion for the next christmas folly light ~ PLEASE BRING BACK THE LIGHTHOUSE. I believe we had the lighthouse in 1999/2000 so to bring it back 10 years later would be a rather fitting tribute for the most amazing folly light we have ever had, does anyone agree with me? If so please post a plea to the remarkable Peter White to BRING BACK THE LIGHTHOUSE PLEEEEASE! Name Supplied |

| Folly light - 30/3/09
As its a folly, perhaps the person who designed the new market place could be hung from the Folly Tower. Has made a complete mess of the Town in my humble opinion. not broke fixit |

| Idea for Folly light -
30/3/09 I think a massive revolving Tesco sign would look great at the top of the Folly and really enhance the character of the town. Not only that, but it would help attract visitors to the local shops. Yours Seymour Munny |

| Faringdon Artistic Skaters
- 30/3/09 Oliver and William Timbrell gained 6 medals between then at competition over the Weekend. The British Championships were very disapointing with 16 events only 2 skaters made the standard that was required to be called a champion.ONLY 2 SKATERS IN FREESKATING EVENTS MANAGED TO PERFORM AN AXEL. Although faringdon skaters won medals they were winners of competitions no Champions. To be selected to skate at International level you have to make the standard and be a champion of Great Britain not a winner on competitions. The only way our young skaters can skate abroad is if the federation decide to hold trials and this goes against the reason why we have Championships Dee England |

| Peter'a
problem - 29/3/09 This post is for those of you who think that the Star, like a pet, isn't just for Christmas Do you have any suggestions for Peter White's next Christmas offering ? Anything mounted above the existing star would be over the top in more ways than one and the suggestion of a small helium filled balloon supporting an illuminated Father Christmas does have a certain charm though it might be associated with a few technical problems as well as being a hazard to the low flying helicopters which seem to find Faringdon irresistible. Any suggestions? Stella Lover |

Folly - 28/3/09 Friends of the Folly have been doing lots of clearance work in the Folly Woodland- thinning trees, clearing brambles The aim is to get more light into the woodland in the hope that a wider variety of plants, insects and birds can be seen there. We've gathered some information about the various species - see http://www.faringdonfolly.org.uk/FF%20wildlife.htm but it would be really good if walkers told us about any others they spotted. So if you see anything interesting please do tell me genewebb@rocketmail.com If anyone wants to take this on as a little project that would be great Gene Webb |

done' and 'Thank you' - 27/3/09 ........to all Faringdon and village folk for their help in running so many great events last year. | The star-
21/3/09 I've been telling my children that the Folly Star is Faringdon's winter star. Mind you, it's Spring now, I guess I'll have to hope that they don't notice and ask any questions because I may have to invent a new story! Any ideas?! Anna |
|||
| A star too long-
21/3/09 In my humble opinion it is not acceptable for a symbol that is designed for the festive period, to still be in place and shining into almost the fourth month of the year. I agree it looks great in the winter months when approaching Faringdon returning home, but can I make a suggestion that in future it bears no relation to Anything Christmas or festive. In that way it could be erected and switched on in say late October and keep glowing until late march without it looking like a Christmas decoration that has been forgotten about, which doesn't make a great impression to passers by using the A420. | Re Ridiculous star -
15/3/09 Well, bah humbug to you too! I think it's a great and novel idea and I thought everyone knew that we as townsfolk weren't paying through taxes for it as it's been featured in the Folly newspaper often enough. It's a voluntary payment for the power - if you pay to go up Folly Tower, you are paying a little bit towards the electricity. I know you don't have to like it, but it's not ridiculous - surely that's a bit strong? Fiona Merrick Ed(GW) Lots of information about the Folly and how it's run can be found on www.faringdonfolly.org.uk |

11/3/09 A star at christmas, a rabbit at easter. These things are both ridiculous and a waste of tax payers money. Whats next? A wad of cash in neon for bank holidays? How much are these lights costing 'US' as tax payers? Name Supplied Ed(GW) Have no fear- it costs you nothing. Volunteers man the tower on Open days, The £1 charge generates enough money to pay the electricity bill and other running costs. 3/3/09 Like the other person who posted recently about the missing refunds for the Hush festival, I too have been waiting for Mr Phillips to honour the commitment he made on Talking Points at the beginning of February to make contact "over the next couple of weeks" and repay his debts. Despite a number of attempts to contact him, emails are either unanswered or returned as 'undeliverable' and the only phone number I can track down seems to be disconnected. So, come on Martin, make good your promise and let's have some contact details where we can get hold of you. know - 3/3/09 Blood Clots/STROKE: Remember the 1st Three Letters....S.T.R. A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours it is possible he can reverse the effects of a stroke He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough. RECOGNIZING A STROKE Rremember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn! Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions: S *Ask the individual to SMILE. T *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today) R *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher. New Sign of a Stroke Ask the person to 'stick' out his tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke. |

ICE - 3/3/09 We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory. If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there are hundreds of numbers stored but which one is the contact person in case of an emergency? Hence this 'ICE' (In Case of Emergency) Campaign. The concept of 'ICE' is catching on quickly. It is a method of contact during emergency situations. As mobile phones are carried by the majority of the population, all you need to do is store the number of a contact person or persons who should be contacted during emergency under the name 'ICE' ( In Case Of Emergency). The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when he went to the scenes of accidents there were always mobile phones with patients but they didn't know which number to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognised name for this purpose. In an emergency situation, Emergency Service personnel and hospital Staff would be able to quickly contact the right person by simply dialling the number you have stored as 'ICE' It really could save your life, or put a loved one's mind at rest. For more than one contact name simply enter ICE1, ICE2 and ICE3 etc. |

| Gateway on the Lechlade Road -
3/3/09 From VWHDC The Lechlade Road Gateway will be located within the grass highway verge on the approach to Faringdon within the 30mph zone. Its aim is to welcome visitors to Faringdon but also as a visual clue to encourage cars to slow down as they approach the town. The Gateway will be a stone wall incorporating the word Faringdon made from individual metal letters, in association with this wall will be a lower wall, seat and a new tree. The metal letters are being made by Root and Branch in their forge at Westmill Farm, Watchfield. Root and Branch is a charity which provides therapeutic gardening and rural crafts for people in Oxfordshire who experience mental health difficulties. It is planned to be built in the second half of April after the Easter Holidays. |

| Thankyou for voting for
me!! - 2/3/09 I've just heard from the Links people - and I've been elected to the Stewardship Group- so thankyou to everyone who voted for me - I know it was an unwieldy process! Just to remind you: Links has been set up to influence the delivery of health and social services across Oxfordshire. 'The government have taken a strong view in recent years that the general public should be involved in, and allowed to voice their opinion about, how health and social care services should be run. Each council has been required to select a local organisation that will host an independent Local Involvement Network (LINk). Every Local Involvement Network will be created by the public. The members of the public that want to be a part of a LINk will decide how each is formed and run. Each one will be different depending on where each is based, the type of community that it serves, the numbers and types of people that want to be involved in running it and what the health and social care issues are that face those communities.' More about the Oxfordshire Link on www.makesachange.org.uk The Stewardship group will: 'guide the LINk through supporting and enabling groups and individuals to carry out the work of the LINk. The Group will help with the development and building of better health and social care in the Oxfordshire Community through listening to individuals and groups and deciding on how resources will be best used to help improve services' If you're interested in influencing Health matters and want to be kept informed, you can register your interest on www.makesachange.org.uk So Thankyou again. There's to be a meeting in the next week or two, after which I'll provide more info on what the group is planning to do. I'm thinking it could be useful to have a 'Talking Health' section of this website. What do you think? Gene Webb |

| Swan Lane - 02/03/09 Now that the double yellows are down at last it hasnt taken long for those with colour blindness to ignore them. I imagine with the absence of enforcement it will be back to usual pretty soon in that it will be difficult to navigate in a car along the road. Bob |
