Folly Park

Folly Park
The main entrance to the park is signposted from Park Road just past the turning to Volunteer Way. Follow the track behind the RAC garage until you reach the entrance, where there is space for parking.

The park is an area of natural open space with a small fishing lake, picnic and park benches.
The gravel track surrounds the lake and winds slightly uphill to an exit leading onto the Nursery View estate. From here you can walk out to the Stanford road and on to Folly Hill

Construction work started on the park in October 2002, after the VWHDC was successful in being awarded a significant grant from the Countryside Agency’s Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund.
The first phase of the project included fencing, car park, paths, seats, picnic tables and tree and shrub planting. The second phase of work has involved the erection of interpretation boards, fishing platforms, bird and bat boxes and a sculpture.

Michie Herbert, a local artist from Great Coxwell, was appointed to work with Faringdon Junior School on the Arts Project in February 2004 and commissioned to produce a sculpture for the park. Work with the school was very successful with a total of 40 children aged between 7 and 11 attending a special week’s project based on looking at nature and the environment.

Friends of Folly Park are a group of local people who with VWHDC and BTCV are planning and progressing the development of the Folly Park. See the action plan map (120kb)
