| February 2005 A brief note to say that we have just heard (5th Feb 2005) that the Trust Deed has been returned to the Town council by the Solicitors and that all is in order. We assume that this will receive the final necessary ratification by the Council in the near future. Once all this is OK it will be possible for Jonothon Ede who is donating the site will have an official 'body' viz. the Trust, to give it to and then we will be able to proceed with landscaping and generally preparing the site for opening - this could be this summer but a little rhyme from my years in Madrid is reciting itself in the back of my mind to the effect that ' the affairs of officialdom move slowly' so lets just hope for the best! In addition to spreading the good news I need to ask if any of you would be able and willing to help us out with a couple of jobs. First and of some importance is that we - Oxfordshire RIGS- needs a new Treasurer. For the last few years this job has been dealt with very effectively by Mrs. Benedicte Windle. Benedicte is a very effective business woman in her own right so our finacial affairs have been in very skilled hands and we are very grateful to her for her skill and experience. However she and her husband Mike who has equally effectively been the Director of Oxon RIGS have now moved to Yorkshire and are gradually breaking their contact with us - they will both be sorely missed. We are looking for somebody to act as our Treasurer and are hoping that somebody ' out there' perhaps with some experience in accounting would be willing to step in and help us out. It is not a particularly onerous job - our annual turnover is of the order of £10,000 per year - and we have about 6 Committee meetings a year, normally in the evenings and held when possible in the Council Chamber. We have a small office in Faringdon with computer and communication facilities but of course it is very much a spare time job that could be dealt with from one's home. The second job is that we are looking for a second Trustee to represent RIGS. I have already agreed to serve as one of the RIGS Trustees. We are hoping that we can find a volunteer, geological knowledge is not required but an interest and concern for Faringdon affairs would be the main priority. Another helpful interests would be a concern for local natural history in the broadest sense and of course anybody with knowledge of 'site' management ( is there a retired surveyor or builder out there?) would be invaluable. If any of you can help, or know of someone who might be interested please contact me by e-mail or phone on 01367 240601 or just knock on our side gate at 46 Lechlade Rd., opposite the Primary School. With best wishes to you all, Norman Snelling |
