U3A: University of the Third
Age
- After the first age of
childhood and education, and the second age of work and raising a
family, there comes the third age of retirement.
- The main purpose of U3As across the UK is
to encourage lifelong learning.
- University is used in its original sense
of a group of people coming together to learn.
- U3A is a lively association, open to
anyone but primarily those over 50 who are not in full-time employment.
Faringdon U3A serves Faringdon and
district
It offers a programme of
educational and leisure activities for retired people. It is part of a
worldwide movement. The main aim is to advance the education of retired
people and assist them in pursuing their interests within a social
environment. There is an active social programme and a regular newsletter.
No exams, but enjoy working, playing and learning together

In 2006, visits to Kew Gardens and Highgrove. Groups arrange visits to
places of interest for their subject Theatre trips are organised
approximately 6 to 12 times a year |
Keeping minds and bodies active -
Use it or lose it Members learn for the pleasure of it. No
qualifications are required and none are given. Each U3A is run by its
members for its members. |
